About The Role
Our Race Systems Department is looking for a Systems Analyst and Lead Test Engineer to join its Sporting Services Team. The role's main duties and responsibilities include:
  • Focusing on all aspects of testing, quality assurance and quality control of the interconnected software and electronics systems.
  • Ensuring all relevant documentation in relation to the generation of product specifications, test case and testing feedback is centrally stored and accessible to all relevant parties.
  • Liaising with the software and electronics developers/engineers to ensure that development of solutions are on time to meet operational requirements, with relevant time to allow for testing of solutions with all related parties as required.
  • Initiating, participating and taking ownership of system and testing procedures development as part of a process of continual improvement to enhance the audience experience and understanding of F1 and associated events via available platforms. This would include (undertaken in close co-operation with other F1 departments):
    • System proving, testing and quality assurance; including ongoing change requests and bug fix requests etc., within relevant development processes on a project/product basis.
    • Requirements specifications and definitions to enable fellow teams to produce systems and products with a clearly defined function and performance. In relation to software and electronics systems, this has particular importance with reference to user interfaces, diagnostics and operational functionality.
    • Specific algorithm development for ultimate conversion into operational systems.
    • Active participation within project development teams and their relevant processes, and communicate effectively with your own team and all other stakeholders.
  • Leading and assisting with designing and running simulations for system testing, development and quality assurance purposes.
  • Keeping up to date with developments in Industry, and consider how these may be incorporated into the F1 Race Systems Group Timing, Data processing and Sporting Services operations.
  • In order to have an appreciation of the importance of the Sporting Services Team’s systems and role within the organisation, occasional travel to events (including international travel) may be required and would involve the following:
    • Configuring, monitoring and troubleshooting in real time the complex interdependent software programs that comprise the F1 Sporting Services systems, whilst anticipating and resolving issues to maintain 100% service delivery.
    • During live sessions, monitoring, validating and editing the live acquired data with reference to the relevant sporting regulations per series.
    • After each session, ensuring all data is saved and archived according to F1 procedures.
    • Generating, validating and publishing any pre-event, live, post session and post-event timing, data and analytical products to internal and external clients in line with F1’s procedures and contractual obligations.
    • Rig and de-rig the F1 broadcast and data infrastructure at Grand Prix events, which includes deployment, positioning, unpacking and setting up of equipment in the timing room, pit lane and around the circuit, and installation of and connection of appropriate cabling, including fibre optic and copper cabling.
    • Contributing to or documenting as necessary all activity during the event, in the form of a Race Report and effectively communicating with your team and manager on all aspects of the operation.
  • Undertaking the collation and curation of the event archive, including the live historic database.
About You
Essential criteria:
  • ISTQB Certification Foundation Level, or equivalent
  • Software system testing with a critical focus on meeting user specification/requirements
  • Software quality assurance / quality control
  • Authoring test strategies and test plans
  • Manual testing experience
  • Planning and utilisation of cloud computing infrastructures
  • The ability to mentally process, interpret and visualise information from multiple sources in real time, and recognise errors and exceptions in this data and prioritise appropriate actions effectively.
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • An analytical mind and a desire to interrogate systems and data
  • Ability to remain focused for long periods of time
  • Ability to make accurate decisions under pressure
  • Familiarity with cloud computing concepts, practices and procedures (e.g. PaaS, IaaS)
  • Ability to travel (internationally)
Desirable criteria: 
  • HNC, HND or degree qualification in a related field (e.g. computer science, software engineering)
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner or Azure Fundamentals
  • Test automation frameworks
  • Scripting languages to facilitate/accelerate system testing
  • Understanding of methodologies such as Agile
  • Facilitating cloud architectures for development/staging/production environments
  • An interest / passion for Formula 1 and motor sport and for delivering high quality technical solutions
  • A drive to continuously improve and refine solutions for operational excellence
  • Operational knowledge of motor sports / sporting events
  • A high degree of computer literacy, including Word, Excel and SQL reporting tools
  • Data mining, statistical analysis and data visualisation
  • EU driving licence
